How about a different experience by including the journey as an idea, overlanding independently or by using a tour is a great way to see places you wouldn't normally visit due to being restricted to stay by where the airports are. One of the famous overland trips is travelling across russia and asia by the trans siberian railway. If you aren't interested in asia, why not travel overland by truck across africa.
